In 1984, General Motors appointed a group to study the world's successful companies, corporations and organizations. Their task was to devise a plan after which to base the new Saturn division.

Saturn built its first engine in 1989, and in 1990 drove its first Saturn car off the assembly line. This spawned a new business model for the automotive industry. In its brief history, Saturn and Saturn cars have quickly earned a reputation of easy maintenance, technological ingenuity and customer satisfaction.
